Great RV only park. There are two pools, one is adults only as is the hot tub. We stayed during the Amador County Fair so it was totally full, but still wasn't too loud in the park. Most sites are back in but there is enough space to get a good sized rig into them. The people were super nice. When we arrived, my site was pretty lousy (probably only happens on really busy weekends). I asked the lady in the office if I could switch sites. She handed me a map and circled all of the sites I could choose from and told me to pick one and come back and tell her (nice). Bathrooms were nice and usually clean. Great little deli/store. They had horseshoes, volleyball, and shuffleboard. There were mature trees throughout most of the park so we in the shade. Great place to explore the Plymouth, Jackson, Sutter Creek area which has lots of pioneer/gold country history as well as lots of wineries. There are a few retirees who live there full time, but not many and the few we met were really very nice. One hint, if you are staying 3 nights, buy the $25 discount card, it pays for itself in 3 nights with additional benefits.
The positives: lots for kids to do such as a train ride, jump pillow, mechanical bull, movies on a giant inflatable screen and it is close to the beach. General: most sites are back-in other than about 10 premium sites, but they helped me back in. Most of the staff was friendly. The negatives: when we made the reservation, we had done a conference call so that we could make sure to reserve two sites right next to each other for another family we were camping with. When we arrived, we were not together. The guy behind the counter said that there was a $10 fee for reserving specific sites, this was not mentioned on the phone. I understand that people make mistakes, but the young man working the desk could not have been more condescending and rude about it. After ten minutes of explaining the situation to him and getting his eye rolls, we asked to speak to the manager who took care of it placed us in adjoining sites - which the guy behind the desk said was impossible. The other bad thing was that the pool was closed for chemical cleaning one afternoon. The other negative was that they do not enforce the quiet hours. We were right next to the playground and there were teenagers playing on the playground and being loud until close to midnight, which kept our friends in the tent awake.
The positives: The store was really nice. The people who worked there were really nice, and seemed to be working hard to plant more flowers and fix up the place. We actually elected to leave sooner than our reservation and they very politely refunded my money. The negatives: Unlike many KOAs, this was not really a family friend place. It is a giant, gravel parking lot with no trees or bushes between sites. There is just a picnic table and hook-ups between each site. There are no fire pits, nothing that would suggest camping. The pool is very small and was closed for repairs when we arrived (in mid July). It is very close to the interstate. Usually KOAs are nice places to take families with small children, this place is simply a place to hook-up while you are staying in the Sacramento area.
As do most KOAs, this place had some nice things for kids (playgrounds, etc.) This place is huge, more than 350 sites which meant that there was constant traffice on the roads, so my kids were scared to ride their scooters around. Also, there was some sort of convention going on so they let numerous people who were not camping there enter during the day. My other complaints were: 1. the site was grass and nowhere close to level. It was severely uphill from my trailer to the sewer hook-up which required some engineering. 2. The website advertised boat rentals since the campground is right next to the delta. When I called the boat rental company that was advertised, they said they really didn't come out to that marina anymore. There are nicer KOAs to take a two or three night trip to.
The price is the only drawback. The staff was very friendly and very polite. They invited us to their New Year's Eve Party, and introduced us and our children around (even though we only stayed two nights). About 1/3 of the park is people who are there on a permanent/regular basis and the rest are short-timers. The pool was closed but the hot tub was great. They had shuffleboard, a wonderful playground for the kids, and even had a place to pet the animals from the neighboring farm. The sites weren't bad, each was a patch of grass with a fire pit, picnic table and a couple of trees. The whole place was kept up quite well and everything was clean. The price was per night with 30 amp/water/sewer hook-up on a paved pull through site with two adults and three kids (1 free).
Nice park for families. They have bike rentals, a fishing pond and a large swimming pool. They also have activities such as a band, movies or a clown making balloon animals at times. We have stayed here twice. The RV sites are not particularly nice. The ones in the back are crowded and are just dirt, not so flat, with water and electricity. The stargazing is great. We would come back for the family activities. The cabins are nice but quite expensive.
